Founded in 1990 as an offshoot of the Redlands Rugby Union Club, Muddies Cricket Club has been a cornerstone of the Birkdale community. What began as parents facilitating cricket for their children has evolved into a rich history of junior and senior cricket achievements.
Muddies boasts two turf wickets at the Judy Holt Complex in Birkdale, with Judy Holt serving as the main oval and Con Sciacca oval added as the club expanded. The club also utilizes a junior synthetic pitch and collaborates with local schools to enhance their “home grounds.”
The club’s training facilities include a 6-cricket net block, with four nets for club use and two available for public use. Bowling machines and fielding practice aids further enhance player development.
Present-day Muddies is a thriving club with multiple junior teams participating in BEARS competitions, senior teams in the QSDCA Greater Brisbane competition, and an over 40s team in the QSDCA over 40s competition across Brisbane.
Boasting a 200-strong member base, Muddies conducts various junior development programs, including Friday afternoon/nights and Saturday morning skills sessions. The club’s success is also attributed to the support of local businesses, contributing at different sponsorship levels to ensure the future growth and development of junior cricket and a robust senior club.
Muddies Cricket Club embodies a legacy of competitive cricket, values, and community support that continues to flourish. Here’s to the continued success of Muddies on and off the field.
